If you want to survive the apocalypse, it pays to have good resources at hand. A loot map is not even half of it; if you want an edge over other survivors, you need to know the characteristics of weapons, the repair requirements of vehicles, the nutritional payload of a goat. Even veteran players need to check the handbook now and then. For new players, it's nothing short of daunting.
Building on the dedication of the ArmA community, the DayZ scene has produced its own rich set of information resources for survivors, from the truly encylopaedic dayz wiki, to the quality maps and weapon information at dayzdb, to some very handy ammo and mildot charts. Having quick access to all this information while you're playing is invaluable. But if you're not running dual screens, it's hard to keep it within easy reach.
DayZ Overlay aims to solve this problem. Designed especially for the Steam overlay browser, DayZ Overlay gathers all of these resources in one location. No more asking in sidechat if an M14 is better than an L85, or how much scrap metal a Huey needs. Just hit shift-tab, and all the DayZ knowledge you need will be at your fingertips. To get it, simply set dayzoverlay.com/mod as the browser home page in your Steam settings.
It's built around the mod for now, naturally, but plans are in place to adapt it to the standalone game upon release. Custom pages can also be created if there is sufficient demand from a community, such as the one created for reddit. If you have any feedback or a request for a custom page, contact creator Gruso via dayzoverlay.com.
